There are lots of exciting things going to be appearing in our new WildLearning  Space in the coming months, but an amazing start has been made over half term… a start to what will become the Bird Zone.  Mr Chadwick, his son and Mr Uttley have been working incredibly hard to turn WildlifeKate’s plans into reality!

The first of these is a giant nest box that we will be able to actually go inside and build a nest in! We will really be able to imagine what it is like for a bird to nest inside a box like this and we will all have the chance to go and have a look in the coming months.

It was a tough job to build this box… some posts had to be sunk into the ground and then the sides and the roof all cut out of marine plywood……

A hole was cut in the front… this is where a bird would normally come in, but we have an entrance at the back! We can look out of the hole though at our bird feeding station.

The whole nest box was then painted with a special paint to make sure that it is waterproof and it lasts a long time!

It looks absolutely wonderful and we can’t wait to get out there and have a go at building a nest in there… I wonder whether we can build a nest as good as a blue tit?!!
