With my new Wildlife Club for this half term ready for action, we started by planting up the school planters. We had a lovely selection of violas and pansies and groups of us took responsibility for the arranging and planting of our chosen plants. We carefully removed them from their pots and separated the roots out so they could quickly establish themselves in the soil.
We then headed down to the WildLearning Area where we had some tyres ready for planting up our shade loving wildlife plants for butterflies and moths. These species have been chosen because either their leaves or their flowers attract certain butterflies and moths. We had to dig some of the soil out of the ground to start to fill these tyres which would then be topped up with compost before planting…..
We found quite a few worms!
We also polished up our wheelbarrow skills as we started collecting the many rocks around the site. We are going to pile these in our Insect Zone for creatures to hide within…
