It is amazing how much things move on in such a small space of time. At the beginning of the year, the area was just a grassed space with a single pond area and decking space…. that was the blank canvas we had to work with….wildlearningarea_2

In just 7 months, we have transformed the area in this…..

We have added another pond and these now boast dragonflies, damselflies, newts, frogs, toads, dragonfly nymphs, newt tadpoles. diving beetles, pond skaters, water boatmen and lots more! Signage is now up to help us identify the creatures we might see….

We now have long grassed areas, that have wild flowers flowing within them…..

Our bird hide and feeding station is up and running and there are identification sheets to help us lean all the different species of birds we are likely to see. There has also been a giant nest built in our giant bird box!!

We are all starting to use and to enjoy the area now…. the pond is the most exciting. By watching from the decking, we have the chance to watch stunning azure damselflies, frogs, water boatmen and, if we are lucky, we can see frogs as well!

We are all thrilled with the progress that we have made and are very excited about how we can use this area to enhance our learning in the coming year!

We were also delighted to be able to share it with all the parents and friends who visited for the Summer Fayre this year… lots of people walked down to take a stroll around our great WildLearning area….
