Tonight, Wildlife Club headed down to our Wild Learning Area. As Autumn approaches, the plants begin to die back and some tidying up is needed! We trimmed the Buddleia and cut back some of the daisies so that they come back nice and strong next year.
We also had a hunt around for creatures and the highlight was when we turned over a big log. Underneath was a beautiful toad! We all had the chance to have a really close look and learn about how it is different from a frog. Most of us thought it was a frog when we first saw it! The frog has a smooth, quite moist skin, yet the toad has a dry, lumpy skin. WildlifeKate carefully lifted the toad up so we could look really closely. Some of us wanted to hold the toad. Others of us just wanted to very gently touch it to see what it felt like.
We carefully put the toad back in his little hollow under the log when we had all had a chance to see it properly. We are really pleased that our Wild Learning Area is a good habitat for amphibians such as toads.
