It is a difficult task to look after animals really well. Many take on animals and are very keen at the beginning, but then they get fed up and bored and then the poor animal suffers as they no longer get the attention they need. We have Yr 6 Animal Care Mentors who are in charge of the daily care and class rota organisers. Every day, rain or shine, they come in to care for our animals and they are doing a GREAT job!!!
This week they have been having a Spring clean, tidying up the courtyard and animal enclosures. Part of our hen run sometimes gets very wet, so we wheel-barrowed bark chippings in there and used it to create a nice dry area for them. The hens were very impressed and liked scratching around in there and sunbathing.
The heath of our animals is testament to the great job the Animal Care Mentors are doing… Well Done Girls….. and Beau!! :o)
We also collect the plant waste from our dinner hall and this gets fed to our hens. All of this sweet corn, peas and broccoli etc would have been thrown away! Our hens are thriving on this regular fresh food and they especially love the sweetcorn!
