Today WildlifeKate put up another Bee Hotel, but this one is rather special! This one has been made by one of her friends. Dave Harper, so we can watch what the bees are doing inside. This hotel is designed for Mason Bees which like nesting in holes. As explained in last week’s blog post, these solitary bees very rarely sting and are not aggressive at all so it is safe to watch them. They line the hole in mud and then collect pollen and nectar. They lay an egg on top and then seal the chamber. They repeat this until they get to the front of the hole. This special box has a clear window alongside the holes so we will be ab;e to watch what is happening!
A big Michael Drayton THANK YOU to Dave for making us this Mason Bee Mansion and we really hope they decide to use it so we can watch their progress.
These photos show another similar Bee Hotel that WildlifeKate is using on a different site in Worcestershire. Can you see the little egg and the piles of yellow nectar and pollen??
