Outdoor Adventurers Club was massively oversubscribed, which is good and bad news! It is good news because it means that lots of kids want to spend time outdoors and bad news because it has meant that not everyone who wanted to be part of this club, has had the chance to. What we have done is to give each group a half term’s worth of meetings to try to get as many children through as possible!
Today, the skies brightened and the rain held off for us to head off to our Wild Learning Area to explore and see what we could find.
We found some lovely blackberries for a quick snack!….
Lots of logs were turned over and we delighted in discovering lots of slugs, worms, woodlice, ground beetles, some centipedes and lots of different types of spiders! We wanted to touch and hold them with WildlifeKate!
We also discovered that Autumn is a great time to find Craneflies (or Daddy Long Legs). We crept around in the long grass and caught lots to have a closer look at. They are very strange looking insects and we thought they looked a bit like aliens when you got up close to them!
We also explored the rest of the Wild Learning Area, checking out the giant Bird Box and the Willow Dome. The time went really quickly and, before we knew it, it was time to head back after our first great Outdoor Explorers Club meeting!
