Green Team headed out in the Autumnal sunshine on a Wild Scavenger Hunt around the school grounds and in the Wild Learning Area. Would they we able to find a range of natural items to fill WIldlifeKate’s special tray? From different sized acorns, to grasses, flowers, spiky and smooth items, the boys were soon looking hard and searching.
There were some blanks so we could add our own items and we decided berries would be a good one! We learnt that we NEVER eat anything out in the wild, unless an adult is with us as not all berries are good for us to eat. We found some lovely, juicy blackberries and selected a few of those to eat.
We loved collecting pine cones, so we searched under the conifer trees, each having a pot to fill. We estimated how many pine cones would go in the pot and talked about the different sizes, looked to see when our pots were a quarter full and half full, sorted and counted…. lots of maths to do with pine cones and we didn’t even realise we were having a maths lesson!! Learning outside is SO much fun!!
