The Eco-Crew met up with Malcolm Smith, from Severn Trent Water this week, to learn more about how we can reduce our water use in school to save money and we also to learnt a little about drains and how we can help keep them unblocked.
Malcolm asked the Eco-Crew lots of questions about water and where they though it came from and how it was learned. He talked about drainage problems in our area and how a lot of the issues are caused by people putting the wrong things down their drains!
Malcolm showed us the FREE Fat trap that we can use in our kitchen at school and that we should be all be using at home to prevent yucky build ups in the pipes. This little video explains it too….
We also talked about water in school and how much we thought the school used. We had NO idea! We decided we are going to do a water audit in school to find out how much we use. We can then think about what we can do to cut down on the amount school uses, and then save money! Malcolm gave WildlifeKate a pack to help us and the Eco Crew all got a Water Wizard magazine to help us understand what we might do to save water in our homes and in our school.
Malcolm is coming back to school to do an assembly in February all about water saving and the Eco crew will be helping him. By then we will have done our water audit.
