The new group of Outdoor Explorers headed down to the Hayes last night. With the days getting a bit longer, we can begin to go a little further afield!  Our first challenge was to balance our way across a series of fallen logs… we pretended we were crossing a river with dangerous crocodiles underneath! Lots of us would have been eaten as we fell off! Crocodile-infested rivers were a great way for us to practise our balancing skills… some of us managed to do the whole thing backwards, as well as forwards!

We also learnt that we can tell the age of a fallen tree by counting the rings… some of these trees were nearly 50 years old.

We spent the rest of our hour beginning to make a den. We split into two teams and dragged all sorts of branches and bits of tree to start to make a structure up against an existing tree.

Time flew past and we did not have time to finish our dens…. may be next week!
