Last year, we started a small orchard area in our school grounds. We would love to, over the next few years, create a large orchard where children can watch different kinds of fruit grow, they can pick them and eat them! There is little better than picking a fresh apple and eating it straight from the tree!

3CL and 3LF came out first and they helped WildlifeKate plant two different varieties of apple. 3BM and 3TC planted 2 varieties of apple, a cherry and a pear tree.

WildlifeKate had dug a hole and we helped to get the tree out of its packet and place it in the hole..

We packed the soil around and put in a little blue tube so we can get water straight to its roots.

We packed the soil in tightly until our little tree was standing up straight and strong.

We were proud of our trees and we are going to aim to try to have a photo taken by it every year so we can see how it grows, along with us…

We talked about how the trees would be a legacy to our classes… we can watch it grow over the next 4 years, but it could be here for much longer than that…. maybe even when we grow up and have kids, it will still be here, producing fruit for future pupils of Michael Drayton!
